BRAND STANDARDS & SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES

Social media can be overwhelming, so we’re here to help! These guidelines will give you the tools you need to run an NNU social media account well while staying on brand. We’d also love to offer support. If you plan on creating an NNU social account, please let Marketing know.

Social Media at NNU

At NNU, we recognize the value of social media for business goals and interaction with your audience. It is essential to remember that social media is a place where we are aware of, and especially careful with, the brand that is being portrayed. Please remember that regardless of whether it is intentional or not, desired or not, and included on a University-sponsored or personal account, you are a representative of NNU’s brand by simply being a part of our NNU community. Please see our NNU Social Media Guidelines for an exhaustive look into our social media policies and best practices.

Getting Started

We want to support you as you begin your social media journey! If you plan to create an NNU social account, please consult Marketing or NNU’s Social Media Manager. We would love to answer any questions you might have and offer tips on how best to succeed.

Some things to ask before starting a University account:

  • Why do you want to create a social media account for your department? What is your intended goal and what do you hope to accomplish?
  • What will your content look like? How often will you post? Do you have enough content for your social media presence to be consistent and sustainable?
  • Who will manage the account? Do you have a backup manager in place?
  • Is this account intended for short-term or long-term use? (If intended for short-term use, put a plan in place to remove the account when completed. This keeps accounts current.)
  • How will you measure success?
Account Name, Profile Image and Messaging

Account Name
Keep your account name and handle clear and consistent across platforms, and include “NNU” to allow for searchability. If your department name is too long, it’s ok to abbreviate it. However, using the full department name will always be easier to find. Check to see if the handle you want to use isn’t already taken. If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out to NNU’s Social Media Manager.

Profile Image
When choosing your profile image and/or cover photo, remember to stay on brand. Using a branded logo or approved NNU photo is always encouraged, though a photo from your department will also work.

Passwords and Security
It’s imperative that you share access/login information for all NNU social media accounts with NNU’s Office of Marketing. This ensures that you receive adequate assistance in crisis situations and avoids unused accounts if the account manager leaves the University.

To register a new account or provide login information for an established account, please complete this form.

Keep your account secure by using a unique password and do not share with unauthorized users. Avoid using the same password on various platforms. If you find that your account has been accessed without your permission, change your password immediately. Contact marketing@nnu.edu with any questions.

Messaging
Keep your bio and about information concise and up to date. This information is the first thing your audience sees when they go to your profile, so remember to use this space to promote your account hashtag, tag @nwnazarene, provide a link to your webpage and keep contact information current.
